     Labour Market Development Unit  

Mandate

To assist Off-Settlement Metis acheive employment self-sufficiency by working in collobration with our community and external partners in facilitating quality career and employment opportunites.

Mission Statement

We prepare Off-Settlement Metis to meet, challenge and reach for greater qualtiy of life and self determiniation through our culturally sensitive, caring and responsive network of employment centers.

We are recognized leaders in the development of Labour Market programs, services and skills training that link our community members to competitive employment in growth sectors of the economy.

We are accountable to our community and partners.

Labour Market Development Programs:

Individual Assistance:
Tuition, books and income support may be provided for individuals entering or completing training from a recognized educational institute.

Targeted Wage Subsidy:
Metis Individuals who have skills and training but lack work expereince, may seek an arrangement with an employer willing to provide direct work expereince and practical on the job training.

Youth Programs: (Ages 15 - 30)
1.Internship Program - provides work experience to Metis youth who are secondary (Grade 12) or post secondary graduates expereincing difficulty making a successful transition into the Labour Market. Employers who are willing and able to provide work expereince directly related to the youth's career goal are able to receive a wage subsidy from the Metis Nation of Alberta's Labour Market Development Program.

2. Summer Student Placement - provides opportunites for Metis Youth returning to school, to gain full-time quality work expereince during the summer months. Wage subsidies are given to emp[loyers who provide suumer work expereince.

3. Community Connections - proviodes work expereince, career planning and personal development opportunites through projects that address a specific need in the local community.

Disability Services:
Encourage Metis people with disabilities to re-enter the labour force and to become self-sufficient. Indentify appropriate job or work place accomadations.

-more information and application forms for the above mentioned programs

-job boards

-educational instuitute calendars and various community resource materials

-computer workstations to update resumes and cover letters

-fax machine, internet and telephone access for job searching

-employment counselling for clients who do not have marketable skills

-short term employment and career realted workshops.
